The Animal Control Officer is charged with enforcing the provisions of NYS Agriculture and Markets Law as well as local ordinances dealing with the licensing and keeping of domestic animals. Duties are performed under the general direction of the town clerk with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Duties include: seizure and impoundment of stray and dangerous domestic animals, responding to complaints from the public regarding domestic animal nuisances, attempting to locate owners of seized animals, supervising the care of seized animals, and arranging proper disposition of stray animals in accordance with the town's contact with the Brennan Humane Society.
