| The Town of Lake Pleasant and Village of
Speculator make up a close-knit community
of less than 1,000 full-time residents. Located
in the south-central section of the Adirondack
Park, this community is dominated by numerous
lakes, ponds, mountains, and thousands of
acres of New York State Forest Preserve, all
of which contribute to the area's unprecedented
scenic beauty. Both state routes that intersect
in Speculator have been awarded "Scenic
Byway" status by the federal government
and have been designated the Southern Adirondack Trail (Route 8)
and the Adirondack Trail (Route
30).
Lake Pleasant and Speculator have a healthy
mix of full and part-time residents, visitors,
businesses, and recreational resources.
While tourism is the engine that drives
the local economy, a new comprehensive plan
seeks to stabilize employment levels by
attracting and encouraging year 'round businesses
(see Zoning
for complete comprehensive plan and zoning
maps).
